APLU President Peter McPherson and the Association of American Universities (AAU) President Hunter R. Rawlings III once again urged President Obama and congressional leaders to strike a deal on a balanced long-term deficit-reduction agreement to prevent federal cuts tied to sequestration. The new letter was sent today and included the original July 2012 letter sent by over 150 APLU and AAU Presidents and Chancellors. UNCG Chancellor Dr. Linda P. Brady was one of the university leaders who signed the July 2012 letter.

“As you negotiate measures to stop budget sequestration and other elements of the “fiscal cliff,” we wish to restate what we and the presidents and chancellors of over 150 of the nation’s research universities said in a letter to you earlier this year—we urge your bipartisan leadership in forging a major, balanced long-term deficit-reduction agreement that will reduce budget deficits, rein in the nation’s debt, and create economic and job growth to ensure our nation’s long-term fiscal health and to prevent the indiscriminate cuts of sequestration,” wrote APLU President McPherson and AAU President Rawlings.
