The NSF Director released notice last week of the plan for implementation of recommendations of National Science Board to revise the NSF Merit Review Criteria. The recommendations would essentially leave the merit review criteria unchanged, but further articulate the underlying principles. NSF plans to publish a Federal Register Notice this month that will contain information highlighting specific changes that to the Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) and NSF systems that will be necessary to implement the Board’s recommendations. The public will then have the opportunity to formally comment on the proposed revisions. NSF anticipates the new changes will become effective in January 2013.
